Animal Supplements (NN)
A third party program administrator carries out this voluntary pilot program, North American Compendiums (NAC), and issues Notification Numbers (NNs) for products registered through their system.
At the moment, the LRVHP pilot is a voluntary program where applicants can apply for Notification Numbers (NNs) from a third party program administrator, North American Compendiums (NAC). These are products for horses not intended for food, cats and dogs (some topical cattle products are now permitted). Injectable products are excluded from this program. While registering products with NAC is not a regulatory requirement, Health Canada’s policy is that NN products are not enforcement priorities – meaning, they are for the most part safe from enforcement action. The alternative to the NN system for natural pet supplements would be to achieve a Drug Identification Number (DIN), and while the DIN is a full legal authorization, it is very costly, time consuming, and requires product-specific clinical data. The NN program provides a fast-track way to bring natural animal supplements to Canada.
NHP Consulting will prepare a NN submission on your behalf, ensuring the product ingredients are compliant and permitted.
